He isn't stupid, and knows that. He knows the type of athletes that are in the south.
Fans may not like him and his NE witty attitude but he'd win and that in itself will win them over.
Worrying about personality when it comes to coaches strikes me as missing the point. Saban is famously difficult at a personal level. Harbaugh seems like a functional Asperger case. Meyer is about as likable as an unflushed terd.
But they win. That's what they are paid to do.

Oh, I'm with you. It doesn't bother me one bit. I like Chip. However, a lot of people in the fan base want someone they can relate to or be able to rub elbows with. Chip certainly isn't that guy but he wins.
It's one reason why O is as loved as he is even though one of his biggest jobs is to sell.

Saban and Harbaugh are hardcore and intense but they have personality and can let their guard down in private with recruits and boosters
