If it were me and I know you said within driving distance of Baton Rouge I would make the drive to the brush country of South Texas and hunt those deer in the Golden Triangle. I have been hunting in Mexico now going for my 7th year and it is an unbelievable experience to kill these deer with a bow.I have killed a 155 and a 153 in Mexico. The 153 was 28 inches wide.
