I use to just go to a place like Calandros and did the create your own 6 pack. Cost 8.99 and I tried 6 new beers, helped me establish what I liked and didn't at the time.

Get a IPA, a Stout, a Porter, a Bock, a Wheat Beer, and an Ale.

Once you find out what style you like you can try multiples in the same style by buying the make your own 6 pack. In a few trips you will know what you like.

I agree with this advice. Can also go to a good beer store with a lot of taps and talk to the bartender. Tell them what you're doing and they can hook you up if they have time and know what they're doing. Someone who knows beer can make suggestions based on how you like your coffee, favorite flavor of ice cream, etc. and they like to talk about it.
