You're missing the point. Sure, past OC/DC's fail as HC all the time. But it's VERY obvious that if you want and elite HC, it's better to hire a guy with a specialty that can run one side of the ball with positive results.

This is spot on and the reason so many are dead set against Coach O. In the SEC, there are going to be 2-3 games each year that it will take more than great talent or "letting coaches coach" to win those games. You will need a head coach who can strategize on an elite level. Those 2-3 games each year separate the great teams from the middle of the pack. LSU has not had a coach on that level since Saban, but they have the chance to get one now. To hire O is to say we are fine with being a team on the upper tier of the middle of the pack. That was were Miles had the team before his stubbornness led to them sinking toward the bottom. Sorry, but I want more than being 2nd place every year. I want a coach who at least gives the team a chance to be SEC or even national champs. Coach O will never be able to do that because he brings nothing to the table in pure coaching ability. He doesn't even want to be a defensive coordinator and I suspect this is the reason why. He is good for motivating and recruiting, both of which he can do just fine as a D line coach. There is absolutely no reason to make him head coach.
