The Strand theater in Shreveport

Anyone regularly go to shows there? Just saw a segment on the local news about it, looks like a cool place. Does Shreveport get off-broadway plays, touring comic and musical acts?
It's actually built a couple years before the Seanger and looks pretty grand as well. The Civic theater is about 20+ years older than them both but don't think was originally built as extravagant as the two.

I think Juvenile was at the strand not to long ago. Lots of use to be or low budget rappers play there.

The Saenger brothers built the Strand. It was the masterpiece of their 300+ theatre empire. They started at the Saenger drug store on Milam. Then built a theatre next door for vaudeville acts. Now the Capri. Motion picture came along and they caught the wave. Later selling their empire to Paramount? for 30M? in what was the largest entertainment deal of the time

It's a very cool small theater. Saw Avett brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show there and it was awesome. Also saw tons of shows there as a kid. I hope it is preserved for a long time.
ETA: just saw your post above, you're not missing anything in Shreveport. People from there act like it's "booming" all the time but what that really means is they're getting a Whole Foods. I'm from Shreveport - I know the lie.

We go to about one show a year there. I've seen The Mikado, Les Mis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Women and Spamalot there. I've also seen Hinder, Finger Eleven and Black Stone Cherry in concert there. It's a gorgeous theater and hosts a lot of shows every year.
The real gem of Shreveport however is the Municipal Auditorium. I'm so glad they remodeled it so that it can host big time events now.

Growing up there, I attended everything from David Copperfield to off Broadway musicals.. It's an incredible small venue with great acoustics.. The original design and woodwork are a great walk back in time to when handcrafted theatres were an important part of a cities landscape.. It drove me crazy when the haynesville shale hit and the place was near shuttering while the population was flush with cash..

My mom has season tickets and goes all the time with her friends. She saw Tedeschi Trucks Band there not too long ago.
It's a pretty cool theatre. I saw a lot of stuff there when I was growing up. I can't remember the specifics now, but I remember being there.

Shreveport/Bossier used to have a pretty damn good music scene. Don't know what happened to it.

The Strand is a really cool venue and I wish they could get more acts there.
Tipitinas Foundation has a presence in Shreveport and has helped get some better acts to start coming through. I saw Tedeschi Trucks at the Strand last year. Great show.

It's a really cool building to see shows in- There's usually 1 show every year that I buy tickets for. The Shape of Shreveport series has done both of their premier's there, and the place is almost electric when it's full. The municipal is equally as cool to me, and having been 'behind the scenes on haunted tours, has seen a lot of Shreveport's history. Bob Dylan is coming to Municipal in October and Gavin DeGraw is coming in November. The Municipal is in the middle of a resurgence, for 2 reasons:
1) the same company that manages the CenturyLink Center is also managing the Municipal, so they can now bring musical acts to Shreveport to a 10,000 seat venue or a 4-5,000 seat venue, and
2) a lot of musicians, like Jack White, want to come play the same stage that Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix and many others played before they made it big. There's a TON of musical history in that building.
