Paging all Colt gurus

what markings were roll stamped on left side of barrel ? .... Frontier Six Shooter, Peacemaker, etc....

do ALL the numbers match ? Screws look a bit buggered up as someone likely took off the side plates and messed with the internals.

I have no clue if it's authentic or a clone. Only way I'm buying that pistol is if a Colt Historian (or serious collector) can confirm if it's real, and appraised value. Very surprised the pistol doesn't have a factory documentation letter from Colt confirming it's pedigree and history.

The Colt Historical Dept. will confirm exact details on a letterhead for $75 - $200. Most serious collectors won't buy without this documentation.

FYI - There are lots of well made copies circulating. Watched a guy drop $5,000 for a Colt Peacemaker at a gunshop, only to learn later it was a fake.

edit: other things to consider... is the nickel finish original from factory, are the grips original, has the pistol been refinished, condition of bore, cylinder, and metal finish.

19th century firearms fascinate me, but prices are all over the place ($50 to $50K) because of so many variables.

Do NOT buy that gun without having someone who really knows Colt SAA's look it over. I know guns and wouldn't even venture a guess at a Colt SAA, Winchester rifle, Luger, etc. Those are extremely specialized collector niches that require an expert.

If you want a cool looking SAA, you can buy a new one from the factory or a repro for much, much less.
