The endgame is to end the petrodollar and the Anglo-American bank/Saudi oil complex's control of the world economy, Russia is already integrating economically with China. Huge infrastructure projects linking them. Russia oil and nat gas and the Chinese yuan will displace the petrodollar if this keeps up.
And I should add, Western Europe has already proven they are more than happy to buy Russian nat gas for their heating and other needs. After Brexit, watch out.

Petrodollar is a nice buzz word, but it ultimately ends up with the old adage that if I owe the bank $1 million then the bank owns me, but if I owe the bank $100 billion then I own the bank. China will put a toe in the water economically but they know we're in a mutually assured destruction scenario. At this point, it's about projecting power and staying on the cutting edge with our military.
Check who owns a ton of T-bills. Spoiler alert- it's the Chinese. You're right in that it is in both their mutual interest to team up against us, but they both have signifacent domestic issues to address before they can present a unified front against us. But again, that speaks more towards the pivot to Asia (and picking off allies before China becomes a true regional force) than wasting more blood and treasure to ensure the flow of oil from Bronze Age oligarchies.
