We just slow-played the USSR economically. That is what defeated them eventually. WW2 ended and we were in far better shape than anyone. We had struck deals with the rest of world and had put missiles all around them...They were beaten then but just did not know it.

The struggle against Bolshevism didn't end in 1990 or 91. Who's to say the slow play isn't still on from their end? The USSR fell but Russia was just a means to an end. Communism tried to seize power in Western Europe as it's primary source. Russia just offered them the first viable option for takeover.
