My guess is there were a couple of penalties the NFL thought should have been called on NYG, and they were notified of that.

That's why I asked if Rhodes got a penalty when he put his arm around Beckham, as I don't think he did. But he obviously should have. And if he didn't on that one or some other one, then it's perfectly normal and reasonable that the NFL would mention that to the refs that called the game. But the article is worded in such a way to make it sound like it's just protect Beckham at all costs!!
