You know, to me, I don't know if there is a coach out there that can get Texas back to elite status. Entirely to many programs in Texas now that aren't going anywhere. All these kids in Texas don't all want to go to Texas anymore. And don't think that is gonna change. I think even Saban realized that a couple years ago when Texas wanted to throw $100 million at him. And I don't think a coach like Herman is scared of Saban. So many so called experts keep saying " why would you wanna go to LSU and have to compete against Saban every year ? " Well, Herman didn't get to be thought of as an up and coming top notch coach by being scared of other coaches. I could see him realizing the talent he has pick of the crop of in LA, the talent he knows he could still recruit in the Houston area, and that Saban is probably gonna only gonna be around 5 more years tops. He could be the next Saban.

That was kind of my argument to my friend as to why the LSU HC gig is better than UT's HC gig. I said I can promise you the guys who think they are good, Petrino, Herman etc...... aren't afraid of Saban and it is that old adage "you want to be the best, then you have to beat the best. He then replied, yes that is true but you don't have to beat him every single year like you would have to do at LSU. Good point but I still don't buy a coach who has confidence in himself not taking a job at LSU because he has to play Saban every year and as it has been going lately you will still have to play him every year in the playoffs if you don't come to LSU and stop him.

I also reminded him that at UT you have to compete against TAMU, Baylor, Houston, TCU, OU and OSU for talent in the state of Texas. In Louisiana you compete against no one in reality. Bama will get there one or two players each year but that is it.
