I've never been to Cabo. Several of my wife's friends and their husbands are going to Villa del Palmar resort in Cabo for 5 nights at the end of May.

Anyone been to this resort and can give any feedback, or any other resorts in Cabo that are worth considering?

Not to brag but my wife's friends pretty much all make less money than we do, so I'm wondering if this is one of the lower end resorts. I'm not a snob and don't mind staying there with them, but I just want to make sure it is safe.

Glad you brought this thread up b/c my wife and I are heading to Cabo next month, and I have never been. It's a business-reward trip so I really haven't researched much about the area, but we're staying at Secrets which is AI so I'm not sure how much we'll venture offsite. The 20:1 dollar conversion ratio is pretty intriguing though. So for anyone that's been, how much cash should we bring? In my mind, "it's still Mexico" and so I don't want to carry a lot but I'm sure we'll look into doing an excursion or two offsite. Any insight is appreciated.

Stayed there in 2011. One of my coworkers owns a timeshare there but we upgraded to a suite for three couples. I don't really remember much about the rooms other than it being your typical hotel room. Nice pool area with a pizza hut and bar. It's within walking distance of the marina, about a mile, if you don't want to take a cab, a cab ride was only a few minutes. There's also a walmart directly across the main highway. There is a giant seawall on the beach directly in front of the hotel but the beach was wide open on each end. The surf was pretty bad in that area so we would walk down the beach towards the marina to go into the water. I think it connects to some other resorts and they all have restaurants. Only time I've been to Cabo so I dont know how other places stack up. We enjoyed it

The sand there is different than we're used to on the gulf coast. It's very coarse and not powdery. If you're going to walk the beach a lot I would recommend some type of sandal or pool shoes.

Villa del Palmar is kinda meh.. It's ok but not luxurious like La Estancia right next door.

i'll be there in 48 hours
