Hendrix was blazin the electric blues when the beatles were singing about holding some broad's hand. There was nothing close to what Jimi was doing in the late 60's. He singlehandedly redefined hard rock and blues and did it in just a few short years before he died.

SRV on the other hand, he played some Jimi covers quite well.

I agree with this assessment, Hendrix took what the Beatles and Stones started to its logical conclusion and made it more exciting, mysterious and harder, which undoubtedly increased its appeal and set the template for heavy metal and funk rock(Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone, Prince, etc.). He absorbed all the great qualities of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend and turned that guitar into a lethal weapon unlike the world had ever seen. God confers divine abilities unto a few people and Hendrix is one of them.
