A football rule I cannot understand: Possession change after whistle blows by LSUtoOmahaI have noticed this phenomenon in the past few years and do not get it. The most common example goes as follows: 1. Running back fumbles the ball on his way to the ground. 2. Refs blow the play dead with their whistle, ruling the offensive player's knee was down. 3. Defense recovers the ball 4. Defense challenges the call, and is awarded the ball Why is this allowed?
I've been saying this for a few years now. you teach OVER AND OVER to STOP at the whistle. Therefore you can't blame your kids for NOT going after a potential fumble AFTER the whistle blows.
ALWAYS CALL IT A FUMBLE AND LET IT PLAY OUT.
