My main question is with regards to IMEI # having a false stolen flag attached to it. Has anybody ever dealt with that before?

You should be good to go. Verizon phones are basically unlocked unless money is owed. T-Mobile runs off GSM network compatibility. See if Verizon can send a network refresh to the phone?
