Element 74 W
You ever wonder why the symbol for Tungsten, Element #74 is W?
Tungsten (and, confusingly, the ore it is refined from) was known as Wolfram in Swedish. To help clear up the difference between the metal and the ore, the scientific community went with calling the element Tungsten.
But archaically the Atomic Symbol for the element is the letter "W".
The alternative name that the world knows it by comes from the Swedish words for heavy stone "tung sten".
