IMO, there's really two categories:
1) Massed produced and sold in stores
2) Local smokehouse produced

For #1, I like Manda (hate all you want) but it does have a good, mesquite flavor to it and is preferred above the others (Richards, Savoies, Double-D, Conecuh). I also think Rouses' brand is better than any of these; very underrated. I can buy Manda at Fiesta here in Katy.

For #2, I like Rabideaux's. Just picked-up 6 pounds and a 1.5 lb of tasso last Lord's Day. Gumbo weather's comin'!

Cutrer's in Kentwood, LA.
It doesn't get any better than their smoked sausage.

Unless you bring them some venison and have that made into sausage. You'll slap your momma.
