Why do people look down on Andrew Jackson, but praise FDR?

Jackson stopped the British advance into NOLA and formed the modern Democratic Party, but he is portrayed as evil because of the Trail of Tears.

FDR was our president during WWII and created the New Deal, but he also interned several Japanese Americans in internment camps. Where's the uproar on that? Why are they moving Jackson off the front of the 20 dollar bill, but Roosevelt keeps his face on the dime?

People don't look at him as a man of his time, instead they are worried about the fact he owned slaves.

Pretty much every civilization that survived throughout history was evil by the same logic.

History of the World:

Civ A conquers Civ B and Civ B must now do what Civ A says

True, but to play devil's advocate, the Japanese did get reparations.

FDR made us all slaves by creating Social Security.

The man was a tyrant.

Those were two completely different situations, with completely different outcomes. One had a tremendous loss of life and culture, while the other didn't.

BUT, to your point, our dealings with native Americans in the 1800s was a shite show, and was a very sticky situation. Did we handle it badly? Yes. Did many of the the tribes across the nation make it extremely difficult to deal with the "right way?" Yes.

Andrew Jackson hated paper money and would have never agreed to having his image on any bill.

The way we dealt with Japanese-Americans was also shite show. A lot of those were tax paying American citizens, who were forcibly taken out of their homes and forced to live in camps.

Agreed, it definitely wasn't pretty, but it is still not comparable to Indian-American relations.

According to my extensive watching of the history channel, the Japanese are soulless. That's why.
