That's the biggest shock gut punch I've ever seen because I was following the team and basketball players just didn't die on the court. He had a huge future.

But Nile Kinnick...if we're talking about talent and tragedy.

Died at age 24, US Naval aviator, Heisman trophy winner...told the NFL no...to go fight in WWII. Plane crashed. He was the most famous football player in America, never played a down in the NFL. Never saw any riches from his gift.

Along those same lines, Georgia Tech had a halfback named Clint Castleberry who finished 3rd in the Heisman voting in 1942 and led GT to wins over powers Notre Dame (at Notre Dame and I think their first loss in a couple of years) and Navy. He left school after his freshman season (freshman allowed to play due to WWII) and joined the Army Air Forces. He flew a mission and the body was never found (wreckage was found).
