How do you measure how long a mattress lasts anyway? Don't people just change them when they start to have back and neck problems?

I think the online mattress companies are going to be more and more popular (Casper, Leesa) and eventually a lot of these stores will close.

I will say this, I did buy a mattress last year it was pricey not the most expensive in the store but there were definitely mattresses that were $8-10k. I have a bad back so I figured id hear the sales pitch on them, which included "well over 50% of your life is spent in bed, so what $9500 for that". In the end it felt like every other bed and I bought one that was alot less. Still though I imagine margins are up there on matresses, and I imagine the move alot because of their financing arm.

When we replaced ours last year, there were notable spots where the springs were trying to break through, as well as some evident sinking in parts of the mattress.

I've seen these commercials where they are now saying you should replace every 8 years but I'm guessing that's just marketing.
