He didn't get more notice because we thought we had a starting qb already in Harris. Everyone expected some growth and it just did not happen. For some reason or another, the guy just hasn't been able to elevate his game. Perhaps just bad luck or perhaps he just doesn't have the QB genes that the good ones need.
Etling looks okay so far. I wouldn't put him on a pedestal, but he surely looks like an actual quarterback. He checks down, he directs traffic, he spots the open target when the called play is covered. He is what we needed at this time. Lets see how he does moving forward.
I REALLY hope Les and Cam are looking to incorporate more plays tailored to Etling's strengths. I think he can certainly handle a more complicated offense, add in some misdirection, and certainly keep having him target the RBs coming out of the back, tight ends after they chip a defender, and of course the receivers. I think we could have a lot of good things happen this year if all 3 phases of the game keep improving.
