Harris in 2014 should be reason enough to temper expectations for Etling

As much as we all hope Etling builds on his 2nd quarter performance this weekend, you'd think we would have learned our lesson from 2014 before we anoint a new QB and cast away the incumbent.

Harris came in against Mississippi State and was 6/9 for 140 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT, nearly completing the comeback that day. He then looked very good against New Mexico State going 11/14 for 178 yards and 3 TDs. Then Auburn happened. Harris went back to being the backup and threw only 1 pass the rest of the year as Jennings came back as the starter.

We've seen this story before, and not only did we anoint a guy way too early based on limited action, we also shite on the original starter that eventually returned and finished the season. While I hope history doesn't repeat itself, it doesn't seem that this place has learned much since then.

He was a true freshman. Etling is not. Two completely different situations.

They aren't comparable at all. Why are so many here just shitting on all optimism for the remainder of this season?

if you dig deeper into the situation you realize they arent so similar. Etling should not look near as bad as a true freshman in a hostile environment on the road.

True but let's be honest msu was in a prevent and nmsu was the worst team in football. Jsu was much better competition. One thing i noticed is Harris played with nothing to lose as a freshman. He's putting too much pressure on himself

If you want to save Miles' job, and we all know that's the case, you better hope he runs the table. Because this excuse you're laying down for later down the road if we have 4-5 losses isn't going to help him this year.

no just no...totally different ....not even close to being the same or being able to compare...you are comparing a true freshman with no starts vs a jr that has started before and played in alot of college football....you sound like an idiot

Everyone yours truly included is just starving no begging for competent play at the QB position that is what is driving this narrative. Les has screwed up this offense for so long we as LSU fans are desperate for someone to step up.

No we haven't, and I'm being as cautious as anyone.

Harris came in a played back yard ball against State and NMSU. He hucked it deep and for the most part didn't think too much.

Danny Etling ran the offense, made reads, and did things we haven't seen an LSU QB do since 2013. Will he be perfect? Doubtful. What he is doing is running the system as it was designed to run, not as a square peg in a round hole like Harris and Jennings, and that makes all the "we've seen this before" talk lose a lot of weight.

Etling is not Harris. I am not sure why ones struggles translate to another?

It is like saying - since Drew tore his arm up and became a Super Bowl winning QB - the next guy that tears up his arm should expect the same.

Doesn't really make sense.

Good Lord. How many times are people going to remind us of this situation to "temper expectations."

Yes, circumstances are similar, but life doesn't work that way. Just because it's a similar start doesn't mean the outcome will be the same.

Any expectations should be tempered. Les is still the HC.

Anyone with eyes can see the difference between them on the field. Etling came in and was able to get plays called and complete a forward pass. Give me him all day.
