How does Apple Store in BR handle launches ?

How does the Apple Store do the iPhone launch For those in line without a preorder ? I did it for the iPhone 5 , can't remember how it was handled but I feel like Apple employees came out about 2 hours. Before Store opened , and asked what phone you were there for , they hand you a card and time , and you just came back at that time for your phone.
