It certainly is very far off from the magic of the previous written material and it can't be thought (at least I can't think of it as such) as a continuation of the written narrative. It doesn't fit and I think most of the negatives have come from people expecting a continuation of such.
However, I can see it as the play, even a film. If they clean up some of the changes and can cast great actors for (spoilers) Albus and Scorpius Malfoy, it fits way better as a film. And, of course, they would need the main characters back and in bigger roles than the script has now, especially for Radcliffe.
I do like his take on it though:
The 27-year-old actor said: “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do."
“But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.
“There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched.
“If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace.
“So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”
