UM knew of this buy out. Something must be written where he pays a part of it out of his pocket.

I think it is based on the fact that WVU did not pan out all the things they promised Rod. This would perhaps be not following the contract in good faith...so there may be some wriggle room from Rod on this one.

Haven't heard anything where he specifically has to pay with his own cash. Usually the new university pays these buyouts. However, the article also stated that Beilein also challenged his buyout and had it reduced from 2.5 to 1.5 mill. Maybe this kind of stuff happens all the time.
