If we're lining up with 2 or fewer WRs, it dictates that we Wisconsin will go big with their defense too. The only way you get guys out of the box is to pull offensive bodies out of the box too.

Uh........no shite Sherlock...............exactly.

I guess the point is that the amount of people in the box isn't an issue on its own if you've got enough offensive players in the box to block them
Me thinks you need to learn why it is that basically every other team in the nation knows you're wrong.

Traffic matters too. Haven't you ever heard of the concept of getting your playmakers in space?

holeeee fackballs

this is shite we have known for years and years. i've been saying run from the gun and pass from the gun to keep them honest. spread them out and open up lanes. let them stay in nickel defenses or even dime at times. it helps us.

I understand how it works. It is all a numbers game.

For those of you who are interested in those runs without 8 or more in the box:

6 in the box, shotgun formation - 1 yard gain

7 in the box, shotgun formation - 3 yard gain

7? in the box, I formation - 6 yard gain

7 in the box, shotgun formation - 15 yard gain

Dellenger may have been strict with his definition of "in the box" because I can't seem to find any other legitimate plays with less than 8.

This isn't really an indictment or support of the "heavy" formations. Many of Fournette's longest runs in this game and last season were the result of him breaking containment with so many in the box. If you spread it out, you might get more per play but you likely cut down on the big play too.

Again, I'm not coming out in support of the strategy. I'm simply saying that the numbers in the box aren't the end all, be all, if you've got the guys there to block them.
