are you basing that off of his travel path?

Wind direction in relation to which wind to hunt? If that's what you mean basing it off his travel path, then correct. It all depends on the OP's set up. If he set his ladder up based off of sign in a particular area, or if he is hunting a feeder/food plot, or if he is hunting based of a known travel corridor. Stand placement in relation to what source you are hunting should depend on a few things, one of those being the predominant wind for that area. When you know that, you can use that in correlation with the source you are hunting, and then decide where to place your stand.

Doing that will help some with the winds... but certain things like cold fronts, etc. can obviously change the normal winds for his area. In those cases, if the wind has changed and is "hurting you" so to speak, then there is no way I would take the chance of hunting a bad wind while I'm hunting a buck. Like I said, he gets any whiff of you, and you can likely kiss his arse goodbye for the remainder of the season.
