Hardi Board is some brittle stuff and will break if you look at it wrong if not applied over a solid backing material. I wouldn't apply it over metal siding with or without furring strips. If your going to use Hardi Board take off the metal siding and install OSB or Plywood first.

Best answer. Just reframe with treated lumber at the ground.

Would rust be an issue with any trapped moisture between the hardi and the metal?
