Mine has been off and on scratching like crazy since early spring. Prednisone has twice cleared it up for a long stretch. Need to go back in for more.
Eta: I've never used cortisone on the dog but I have on the sensitive skin horse with no issues.

I think we are going with cortisone on the two spots. I'll watch all night to make sure he doesn't lick it off. Then vet in the morning.
