What do your kids enjoy? If outdoorsy, I'd go with Yellowstone. Gardiner is a nice town to stay in at the north gate. Fly into Bozeman. Or you can fly into Jackson hole and work your way north.
Another two outdoorsy options are Mackinac Island, and Isle Royals in Michigan.
To be honest, when I was that age, I hated outdoorsy crap. My dad would always take us to Colorado, and I would make my parents life a living hell because I hated it. Now I'm the exact opposite. I would have much rathered NYC, Boston, etc.
DC would be another great option if they haven't already experienced it.

But now, you're glad he took you there, right? I took my oldest son to Alaska about 10 years ago, and all he wanted to do was stay inside and play video games. I wouldn't let him. I would drag him all over the country side - hiking, fishing, sightseeing, etc... He was very reluctant to go. Now he looks back on that trip as one of his most cherished memories.
You are creating memories, not doing what your kids want to do. They may not think they want to go, but they will thank you later.
