I have to take exception with this...it is your right as a homeowner to take on the re-building of your own home.
Insurance has no right to dictate who why or how you re build it. Their job is to indemnify your loss. Now mortgage company...different animal

You can no longer serve as your own contractor in the state of LA, you have to be a licensed contractor. You cannot get a building permit yourself with the intention of subbing out work any longer, that's why they told him that.
