The term 1000 year flood is very misleading. It does not mean we will go another 1000 years or even close to it before seeing another flood like this. It means there is only a .1% chance of that kind of flood happening every year. Technically, the odds are the same every single year and just because it happened one year doesn't mean the odds are lower for the next 999 years. It could happen next year, there is a .1% chance of it happening.
