Why use humans at all? If machines are so smart why not a nuclear source? Humans will always try to escape or wage war

This is a legit question that's not explained.
But I think it's a way of saying frick you to the humans.
Humans created them, no doubt exploited them, and then went to war with them.
Humans give out sufficient energy to power the machines, so why not control and frick them forever.
