Maybe more than that, maybe less, but he will for certain catch zero passes at OSU this year. That's the part I don't get. Why not stay at LSU and fight for that No. 3 spot then, next year, be right in the mix for a starting role with a senior QB?
Like it or not, LSU just doesn't use their WR's to any great degree.
OSU's No. 3 WR had 45 catches last year for 766 yards and 5 TD's.
LSU's No. 1 WR (Dupree) had 43 catches for 698 and 6 TDs
Yes he could possibly be the No. 1 WR at LSU next season. However, it's not unrealistic that even at the No. 1 guy, his production could still be lower than the 3rd WR at OSU. Maybe he sits out a year and becomes the top target at OSU in 2017.
Diarse and Quinn left because it was clear they were behind Dupree and Dural in the pecking order this season, and being in that position almost assured them that their production wasn't going to be very high. LSU just doesn't spread the ball around in the passing game. It's not their offense.
I'm sure Johnson, like every other player, wants to put up numbers on the field. Evidently he felt leaving LSU for another school presented him with the best chance to do so.
LSU's use of their WR can be look at from two perspectives:
1. They get guys ready for the NFL regardless of college production -- James Wright had zero catches his Sr. year, yet he is an NFL WR with Cincinnati.... or
2. LSU had an NFL WR on their roster, James Wright, yet the wasted his talent by never throwing him the ball.
If you are a WR who wants to play in a wide open passing offense, LSU isn't the place for you.

And, both of those are actually true leading to #3.
James Wright almost certainly lost a shite ton of money because he played at LSU.
Had he been able to actually SHOW his ability in college, he likely doesn't enter as 7th round pick.
Think about that. The dude was good enough to be drafted on basically NOTHING.

And every kid knows this BEFORE they commit to LSU, as long as Les Miles is the coach. Why change your mind now? Why break your commitment to a team? I don't wish ill on the kid, but Im certainly not going to wish him good luck when he can directly affect LSU's potential playoff hopes in the future.
