Putting together a tool bag to put under my back seat. Just stuff to get me off the side of the road on a pinch.

Got end wrenches, pliers, channel locks, screw drivers, duct tape and zip ties. Oh, and a hammer. Already have jumper cables and plan on getting a basic socket set. What else? Tell what I haven't thought of.

I find my 12v air inflator very handy. Just make sure you get one strong enough for truck tires.

I have been thinking about exactly the same thing...include:

knife or box cutter

1/4" drive ratchet and socket set or nut driver set

hose clamps

couple of feet of wire and wire nuts/splicers

variety of fuses

small flashlight

high viz safety vest

disposable gloves and coveralls

Tow strap and shackle.

The shackle can be a huge arse permanent one you leave on your hitch if you want.

Flashlight. Tow-rope or chain. Work gloves. Poncho. Couple of flares or something to alert traffic to your position.

Eh, hard to say because I have so much shite in mine, I could support an army. I guess you could add a small fire extinguisher to that. If you drive the Causeway, maybe some rope and one of those inflatable life jackets. I have two big tow straps, some shackles, and some rope.

You need both big and small zip ties and get one of those small socket sets

First Aid kit. Gonna sound hokey, but the CB I have in my truck was the only way I had to communicate with my family once the phones went down.

Some thing in my box that I've used more than others

Heavy duty chain
Small floor jack
4 way lug wrench
Various ratchet straps/rope/bungee
Duct tape/electrical tape

Eta: then I've got a small tool bag with the basic necessities.

I keep deep sockets as my truck set. I use them more than standard depth sockets.

Every once in a while you may have a tight space where you need a shallower socket to fit, but 95% of the time a deep socket works and gives you insurance on taking a nut off a longer bolt.

I keep a cheap Harbor Freight set in the back of the Tahoe. Nothing fancy or nice but will work in a pinch. I didn't want to invest a ton in tools to keep in the truck that very rarely gets used. It's more there for just in case. Has a full set of sockets in metric and standard. Some wrenchs, pliers, side cutters, small hammer, razor blade, etc. I like it because everything has a place and it is one easy to stash case that's y thin enough to fit under the back seat in the Tahoe.

This isn't it exactly but looks looks 95% there.

A few things I currently have in the vehicle:

Poncho
Oil
Transmission fluid
Rain X
Headlamp
Socket set
Jumper cables
Pistol
Pocke knife

Need to add a tire inflator and fix a flat for sure. Contemplating a hammock because I almost fell asleep at the wheel on a late night road trip after a ball game once

I used to keep a mobile garage in my truck but all that crap seems to get in the way. All I keep in there now is stuff for getting stuck, tow strap, snatch block, tree trunk strap and pump and plugs for tires.

I carry a lot of stuff in a bed box, over the last 40 years the things that I have used repeatable are,

Work gloves

Water resistant wind breaker, weather can change while your out
Ball cap, and wide brim sun hat
Folding chair
Reusable water bottle
Small lunch size ice chest
Large flashlight
Jumper cables
First aid Kit
Small 120v power inverter.
Ratchet straps
small rope in 10-15 foot lengths
Duct Tape
Large Plastic sheet safety orange in color, keep in case I need to cover something or crawl under the truck, have cut strips off many times to use as flags on loads that are too long for the bed.

4 way lug wrench and breaker bar

Pair of coveralls to go over clothes when changing a tire or other dirty work.

I carry a assortment of tools, but have never needed them to fix the truck.
