Can anyone here shed some light on the ins and outs of jewelry and firearm insurance? And recommend some companies?

Pretty much if you have homeowners they have maximums on jewelry, guns ,etc and it is not too much maybe a couple 3-4 thousand. Anything above that needs a rider or an individual policy, as stated above you can not beat eastern for guns, it is a stand alone policy which means it will not be counted against you with a claim on your homeowners
If I remember right they offer A 30k policy with a 100 deductible for $130/ year

Just get endorsements on your homeowners. I have many for jewelry and guns. They are cheap and don't require a deductible.

Join the NRA. They cover a portion of stolen firearms if I remember correctly.

Jewelers mutual is pretty good. Homeowners policy beat them by $10 a year though for same coverage. As to the 3-4K I'm not sure where you get that from. My jewelry portion is way over that. Obviously your premium rises based on how much you want covered.

Yeah like I said. I'm not sure there is even really a limit. Your premium is based on how much you want to insure. I think it can probably get pretty high. Jewelers mutual does In the millions I'm pretty sure.

Stated coverage limits for theft of firearms and jewelry under homeowners contents. Personal article policy limits are based on the appraised value of whatever you're insuring.

Not sure what you're saying because I don't work in insurance but maybe some policies cover a little just under contents? I'm talking about an additional premium added for jewelry. Not sure about guns though. To the OP these policies are fairly cheap to add. I think I pay in the neighborhood of $100 per year per 10k insured.

I'm sayin your homeowners policy will cover your contents, but only to a stated limit for theft of guns or jewelry. Your contents coverage may be $100,000, but it will only cover up to $4000 for theft of jewelry or firearms.
Therefore if your (wife's) jewelry exceeds $4000 in value, you'd need a personal article policy to be fully covered for the jewelry. The coverage limit is based on the appraisal provided by the jeweler. This coverage is in addition to the contents coverage in your homeowners.
