If you want a realistic space sim for console/pc with multiplayer, aliens, trading, combat simulation, and landing on planets... buy elite dangerous

bought it last night and it's blowing no mans sky out of the water

patch 2.2 coming 8/18

I've had this for a while, didn't care for it at first but need to give it another shot after all the patches.

It took a lot of time for Elite Dangerous to get there though. The first version of ED was nothing more than a glorified trucking sim with the occasional dogfight. I'm not defending NMS by saying ED was crap at launch, because at least Frontier Games released it as a $30 Alpha/Beta/Whatever the shite they call early games these days, then they had another $30 upgrade when Horizons came out (which I still need to get). The current version of NMS is a beta. It's no where near finished, and it's a shame it was priced at $60. It's a $30-40 game in it's current state - tops. Doesn't mean you can't get $60+ worth of enjoyment out of it, but for the majority of players it is not worth it yet.
