It's all about your perspective. When you think your life is bad go spend a day sitting in the surgery waiting room at a place like Children's Hospital... You will see in a few hours so many that are likely dealing with so much worse.
I always tell myself how things can be so much worse and I think about that and it helps. A good bible study group was invaluable to me when things were really bad.

this is somewhat unfair
life can be shitty for both people. if you reduce it to the "Worst case" scenario, then only one person on earth can be sad on any given day
