Some of you need to read more closely. This post is about WWI, not WWII.

The American army in WWI was not up to the standards of our European counterparts. The Europeans had been fighting a stalemate in the trenches for 3 years when America finally sent troops.

meh. it was a humongous army with over one million men that had been trained. there were supply issues, sure, but the united states military circa 1918 was a very capable one that could have easily sustained a prolonged war in europe. thats why americas entrance was such a big deal. it was the worlds most powerful nation in terms of industry and economic might becoming involved and didnt have to deal with all the issues that the germans, french, and english had to deal with after years and years of war

You're correct, at least to a point. The AEF (American Expeditionary Force) sent to Europe was woefully trained and equipped when it first began arriving in France in 1917. However, by the time of the big German offensives of 1918, these deficiencies had been rectified and the Americsn Army had grown into a potent force on the battlefield.
