Because he doesn't want to be traded. He literally wants to play on the Cubs MLB roster or retire
It's definitely odd as he has to know he would be back as late as September 1, possibly earlier. I don't think he's making demands. I think he is a guy who was thinking about his future before this and the demotion has brought it back up for him again.
