I remember eating at a fuddruckers, (I think), a few times, down from hooters, close to mansurs, kinda on the way to the big deli and the ice cream place. Am I dreaming?

Not close to Mansurs, it was in the same location as Mansurs is now. I remember thinking it was okay.

I went once or twice. Nothing worth talking about. It's heyday has long past.

The founder of Fuddruckers, Philip J. Romano also created Romano's Macaroni Grill, eatZi's and others. He wrote a book, Food for Thought. It's a pretty interesting read. He seems very impressed with himself and he definitely comes across as an a-hole at times. He will frick over anyone that he doesn't like or anyone he thinks crossed him in someway. Not a dude you want to go head-to-head with.

From Wiki: "Romano was also one of the earliest investors in the heart stent. His initial $250,000 investment returned millions of dollars in royalties."

He also did a lot as far as improving trademark laws. Basically, people were not just doing something similar to his Fuddruckers concept, they were outright doing exactly the same thing. You couldn't tell the original from the copies. So because of him fighting back, trademark laws were changed to prevent that kind of shite.
