Look, I believe that reparations are a ridiculous concept/demand. Especially considering the countless avenues that are available to better oneself. I hesitate to use any variation of the term "they" because that shite is just as racist as what everyone is bitching about. But, just to be clear, government assistance has to be qualified for. That seems to be something that a lot here don't understand.

Welfare is widely misunderstood. Firstly, it has major issues, not the least of which is the fact that it discourages the marginal improvement over time that is required to pull yourself out of poverty. I don't know how to fix it, but that is where the problem lies.
The second frustrating problem, at least IMO, is the idea that it is a pride thing that keeps people from turning to an easier life on welfare. That is pure BS. It has nothing to do with pride and everything to do with the fact that qualifying for welfare is a shitty life. People romanticize it as if it's just as comfortable to mail it in as it is to make $100k a year, and that's horseshite. If it was such a great life, far more people would turn to it. I'd like to think we're capable of discussing welfare problems and abuse without the hyperbole regarding how sweet it is. It is better to be poor in America than anywhere else, but that's about it.
