Most people's bathrooms are smaller than they think. Bring a tape measure and go look at the tubs and shower sizes you may be interested in. Measure them and write down the measurements.
Get a lot of newspaper and tape and make templates of the sizes you liked. Lay them out in your bathroom and see if you have room to do what you want.
Make a rough drawing and put in some dimensions. Take it to the guy you find and discuss your drawing with him. You doing your homework before speaking with him can help him and you come up with a solid plan on how to proceed.
In your rough drawing with dimensions, be sure and put where drains and water supplies are, with measurements.
