I was reading this book by this Christian-Jewish fellow. He had a Ph.D. In something or other. He promoted a diet based on biblical teachings. Explained how the Jews survived the Bubonic Plague because they followed strict rules on how to purify and prepare the meat. Anyway, this dude swears by it, but you can't eat pigs, shellfish and some other things I would never give up.
However, one thing he did stuck out to me. He did a 1 day fast every week. Incorporated it into his long term lifestyle. He was probably doing it for spiritual and self discipline purposes as much as losing weight. But if it takes 3,500 calories to burn a pound of fat, and he's eating a normal 2000 calorie diet a day, after two weeks this dude was burning a pound of fat, plus 500 more calories. That would add up over months and years, and would seem to be more effective long-term than a 7-day juice fast. I think I may start it next week.
Now, there is a hardcore lifter on one of these boards who takes fasting to a whole new level. Dude definitely knows what's up. Maybe somebody can come in and link his threads. Good luck to you.
