everyone i've known with an imac has had it last over 5 years. i knew a few people with the old colorful bubble looking imacs in 2008-2009ish. i have a mac laptop from 2008 that is still functioning well, albeit slow running.
as for ease of use, mac OS is very similar to modern phone software. if you can use a smart phone, you can use a mac.

Apple does not make the internals. They just piece it all together the same way Dell, Acer, etc. all do.
With that said, why pay double for identical internals?
Also why not save even more money and build your own computer? It is super simple. Anyone can do it.
