Yeah. Screw that. I have 4 kids (17,14,10, and 5) and we were crammed in a 2300 sq ft home with no basement. That home is a rental now. We bought a 4 bedroom 3 1/2 bath 2900 sq ft home on an unfinished basement 3 years ago. I finished the basement of 1200 sq ft and added 2 bedrooms, a full bath, living room, and home office. I left one 150 sq ft room unfinished for storage.

Everyone has their own bedroom and we have an extra guest room upstairs. We will downsize in 12 years after my youngest graduates HS. But it won't be 500 sq ft. More like a 3 bedroom 2200 sq ft ranch style home within 20 miles of the ocean around Naples, Fl..
