Like nurse is telling you, I think the ski resorts open up to mountain biking in the summer months.
If you're staying on the North side of the lake, consider Northstar or Alpine Valley or Squaw Valley.

My husband and his friend really wanted to go here to bike but the schedule didn't allow for it.
Mammoth Mountain is a few hours from Tahoe as well. He REALLY wants to check out the mountain biking there. Has heard they have amazing trails.
