I use a 6/0 circle fished with a 1/2 oz to 1 oz sinker tied directly to 50 pound line so the sinker slides up the line.

I guess I fish deeper water with more current than most of you.
Large circle hook
12-36 oz sinkers depends on current
3' of 250 lb leader about 20" from hook use a crimp then a bead then sinkers then another bead and a heavy duty swivel.
I like as much weight as I can get so the bait goes where I want it but where the current takes it. This is all connected to 80 lb braid.
