You have to walk the plank.
Upgrade to Vista.
Upgrade to Win 7 version that matches the Vista version and buy a cheap Win 7 key.
Legit free upgrade to Win 10, if your machine can handle it.

Oh boy. I don't know if I deserve 10 that much. Xp web browsers only crash once or twice an hour

It's much less trouble to just do a clean 10 install. Identify any extra software you need, make sure you can download copies of that. Move data files off to a new drive beforehand, then just hook that drive up to the new system.
