But, to repeat the question, if in the same circumstances, would you come out and say absolutely not, close that chapter, or talk to them?
I think the guy was sincere when he made his statements. It's BS to say he's "helping them find a coach"... C'mon, we all know they are making a pitch to overcome objections and lure him back.
I would talk. But only so they can hear my reasons directly from me and give them an opportunity to fully understand my reasons so that they can move on. I think he's sincere as well (though it's only based on optimism). A gentleman will talk to the people courting him, regardless of occupation. Of course he knows they will try to lure him in - even if it is a face saving gesture to appease the Michigan community. If Miles loves that community, he would absolutely chat with them. He would also make it clear to the LSU community once he returned from that chat what his motivations were for chatting with them.
I also wouldn't call it b.s. that both parties are interested in helping to find a coach. He's a credible source for finding a good fit for a job that he has a lot of ties to. He also turned his back on that opportunity for good reasons (probably Lloyd Carr's divisive influence among others). Helping them overcoming that would be of mutual benefit.

I would have said, "We'll talk when the season's over. If you want me to consider the job, you are going to have to wait. If I were in the same situation for you, you would expect nothing less. If you need to fill the position before then, by all means do so."

To be completely honest, I would want to go back to where I played; however, I would stay for my family.
He has kids entering their teenage years and you know they definitely do not want to pick up again and have to make new friends. Also, the pay is better and would allow for me to provide for them better (a new infiniti instead of a nissan)
