The concept is foreign to me, especially on op's scale. Who the hell has 50 friends (drinking buddies) to invite over to give themselves bottles of liquor?

I think we had this thread before and it was more of a regional thing

Hmm, almost everyone I know who's gotten married has had one. It very well could be though, although I wouldn't call it a necessary part of a wedding celebration. But I was glad I had one and always make sure to make one happen for weddings I'm involved in.

We had around that many. But my wife and I both have a pretty large group of friends and drinking age relatives that enjoy that kind of thing.

I consider my group of friends to be rather large. There are about 11 or 12 of us (plus their wives) that are in our core group. There's no way i could fathom the shite show of having 50 core friends.

With a group of 10-12 and with everyone having babies now, get together's are much different than they used to be.

It's generally a twist on a housewarming party. My so and I jus. Got married and moved into a new house. Once it's set up, we'll throw a housewarming party and it will be a stock-the-bar one. My friends typically do their drinking at my house anyways, so whatever they bring will be here for them to drink when they're over (at least once a week).

It's a fun way to make sure everyone brings a gift that everyone gets to enjoy.

Definitely weird to do this at some place other than your house, though.
